Imbolc

Imbolc marks the first day of Spring in the Celtic Calendar and separates the light part of the year from the dark. So time to shake off the blues by putting a glide in your stride and a pep in your step. Stop hiding in the dark and turn to the growing light of the sun instead. Let it brighten your soul and fire your passion.  To prepare for the brighter and longer days ahead, you have much work to do now both at home and outside. Personal growth and renewal of resolve or determination is focused upon. Get active, get busy and release the Fire Energy within.  Get going with any projects and plans for the year ahead as it is a fertile time for growth and expansion. Get stuck into those New Year resolutions with renewed fervor.  Let the light banish any darkness, obstacles, or challenges you may have encountered or perceived in the past, and forge ahead with positivity and optimism. Leave any depressing feelings or attitudes behind and allow healing to enter unconditionally into your life. Let the Spring breeze cleanse the cobwebs of your mind, and the growing sun thaw any ice or snow from the heart. Everything is up for grabs now as inspiration and creativity rush in an abundant flow of endless opportunities. The natural world is starting to wake up to new life again. Don’t get left behind in the dreariness of the old, be a part of this rebirth and renewal. Venture outdoors to witness the miracle of nature around you. The most wonderful things are happening right now as Brigid walks among us. We bow in respect to her life-giving powerful presence.

Imbolc is a great time for divination so your Tarot Cards can be put to good use. We can look to the Tarot for inspiration and guidance on how we can incorporate Imbolc, Brigid and the Powerful Energy of Fire into our life for the year ahead.

Imbolc Tarot Spreads

Wands are strongly connected to Spring with their Fire Energy breathing life, passion, creativity and inspiration into everything they touch. To access the energy of the growing Fire of the young Sun as it gradually begins to lengthen the days and warm the air about us, we can call on The Wands Suit of The Tarot for guidance.  Below I have compiled a very brief snapshot of what the individual Wands might have to say to us as we celebrate the Fire Festival of Imbolc, and the Triple Goddess in her maiden form.

****************************

Ace_of _Wands  Ignition – The Fire has been lit. It is only a small flame so it must be carefully attended or it will blow out. You will need more than this flame to reach your goal but it is the first spark that sets the wheels in motion. This is the eternal flame, the original combustion of energy that refuses to die in each and every one of us. All the great and powerful who have gone before us started with this very same emanation. What will you do with it?

2 of Wands Upright Not paying attention to the Fire. Your mind is on another Fire. Decide once and for all which Fire means more to you or both will fizzle out. Don’t stand forever at the crossroads. Make a decision and then act upon it.

3 of Wands Upright Turning from any darkness in the past to bring Fire into your future. Positive action and purpose. Looking forward to the year ahead and feeling encouraged to initiate change. Three brings growth and expansion for Fire. Get behind your projects with renewed enthusiasm and conviction.

4 of Wands Let Fire into your home. Maybe it is time for a make-over. Freshen, renew, repaint, re-do and reclaim. Clear clutter indoors and outdoors. Open the windows and let some fresh air in. Feel energised and motivated into making your home an uplifting and welcoming place to be, then show it off to family and friends. Maybe you need a personal make-over too. Time to start thinking about vacation destinations.

5 of Wands Upright Use the energy of Fire to enthusiastically throw yourself out of your comfort zone and into the challenges of new experience. Embrace change by responding to it positively. Battle your way through any obstacles instead of sidestepping them. It is better to join the game rather than stand on the sidelines. Participate in what excites you. Push your body into activity. Jump into the mayhem of the new and unknown. It will waken you up very quickly. Remember, if you are not in, you can’t win.

6 of Wands Upright Don’t just think or hope you will succeed. Believe and know you will succeed. Work with Fire to strengthen your resolve and it will reward those who do not quit. Follow through on promises you have made to your yourself and to others.

7 of Wands UprightBreathe in the heat of Fire into your belly and stand up for what you believe in. Be assertive in your dealings with those who would seek to dis-empower you. You shall overcome. There are no problems, only challenges. Instead of can’t say I’ll try. Replace ‘impossible’ with ‘I’ll find a way’. Remove the negatives that aim to quash Fire.

8 of Wands Upright Maintaining and sustaining a strong Fire within will create the momentum you need to reach your goals. Others will be impressed by what you are achieving with Fire and will be eager to join in. The power of Fire is magnificent once it is harnessed and channeled in the right direction. Set goals that are achievable yet force you to go the extra mile. It is in this extra mile you will see the magic begin to manifest.

9 of Wands Upright Fire has taught you some hard lessons in the past. Don’t allow yourself to make the same mistakes this time. Increasing your understanding of the nature of Fire will lessen the risk of getting your fingers burned.

10 of Wands Upright Seek not the new Ace of Wands until you are sure you can handle it. Deal with the Fire you are carrying before adding more to your load. Too much of anything, even Fire, can be a bad thing. If your hands are burning, or the heat from the Fire is unbearable, then something is wrong. Make sure you have the time and energy to complete anything you start or take on.

Page of Wands Upright You are the embodiment of Fire and are ready to fully embrace the possibilities and potential of the year ahead. Reborn, refreshed and renewed, you are all set for an adventurous journey. Expect to be surprised and amazed by what you discover. Fire is working its magic on you and has your full attention. You can do anything and go anywhere you please under this energy. New interests, new looks and new places are highly encouraged.

Knight of Wands Upright The explorer bursts forth out of Fire and is ready to conquer the world. You will have to take action as Fire refuses to be held back any longer. This is what you have been waiting for. Energy begets Energy. The more you do, the more you will be able to do. You are in a position to use Fire to take your life to any level you so wish. Remember the gift and power of Fire, and the respect you must have for it. Rise to any challenge you encounter and keep smiling. Get ready to enter new territory.

Queen of Wands Upright Fire bestows on you its many blessings. You become radiant in its fiery glow. Its heat warms and nourishes you, allowing you to generously share with all, the love and joy of the new life that bursts forth. You refuse to be anything other than optimistic about the year ahead and have many plans, ideas, and goals to put into action or work towards. Energy is high and health is wonderful. You believe in life, love, happiness and fun and are totally open to anything that comes your way. You are channeling Brigid, the seer, as you re-calibrate your energy with that of the natural world around you.

King of Wands Upright You must learn to master Fire for productive purposes. If you want to lead instead of follow, to be in control of your destiny instead of leaving it up to the fates, then you must work with Fire to empower you. Fire at this level must be channeled in a mature manner. The gift of Fire will assist your influence over others, but it will also allow you to control others. Before you open yourself to this formidable energy you must question your conscience. What sort of power do you seek from Fire? Once you have found your perfect balance of Fire, keep it topped up or stoked. You must maintain your position. Rest not on former glories.

Lá Féile Bríde

xx Vivien

Pentacles – Love and Romance Associations

How to Interpret ‘Pentacle Cards’ in a Relationship Reading

Hi to All My Tarot Friends and Followers,

Yes, this post is indeed long over due and I apologise for the delay in getting it out to you. Since my last post I have succumbed to a vicious flare up of Fibromyalgia which has been very debilitating this time round. For those of you who suffer from, or know about this condition, you will only be too aware of how rotten it can be. I have not been been able to attend to my regular work schedule and have only managed a couple of hours a day at the computer. Some days, none at all. I am hoping that a return to normal activity is on its way soon, but from previous experience, flare-ups vary in intensity and duration. My cards do show The Star in my surrounding energy, so fingers crossed.

I hope you enjoy reading about the Pentacles – Love and Romance Associations. I think I may have gotten carried away as I seem to have done more on this Suit than I did for both Wands and Swords.  There is so much to say about these lovely Pentacles. Indeed, I could have written a lot more!

Blessings,

Vivien (your Tarot Teacher)

Pentacles- Quite Interesting in Relationship Readings

Pentacles are generally welcomed in Relationship Readings once they are Upright. Cups are all very well and good for love and romance, but they can have their heads stuck in the clouds and get lost in unrealistic dreams as their emotions run away with them. Yes, Cups do highlight matters of the heart, but only on the basis of fluctuating emotions. The love experienced by Cups can turn sour overnight as they are easily influenced by their shifting environment. They view love and romance in an idealistic way and most certainly they are to be encouraged in this manner for we should all be lost without love. However, holding on to that love once they have found it can prove a stressful endeavor. Some Cups are forever chasing the dream lover or relationship. Disappointment or disillusionment can follow. Pentacles help them to be more realistic and practical about their needs….. Click here or Below to Read More

Chart Your Progress Tarot Reading – Week 2 of 4

Hi To all my Tarot Friends around the World,

3_ Cups_Upright

After getting off to an excellent start yesterday with Chart Your Progress Tarot Reading – Week 1, I now bring you the next Reading in this series, Week 2. In the first Reading, we set the background scene, found our central theme and got our bearings. We now have something very solid on which to build the next, and indeed, all subsequent Readings. We gained a real insight into Sharon’s situation, her personality and spirit. This has given us invaluable information and we can also see a wonderfully intricate story building around her.

There is indeed a vibrancy around this Empress woman who we cannot help but admire. However, we must strive to remain objective for the following three Readings. Life is never a bed of roses, and the journey we all face, rarely runs smooth, or as anticipated. We must be prepared to interpret any further scenarios that may arise regardless of how glorious her initial Reading is.

The Ace of Wands has certainly launched itself, but where will it go next? None the less, we have broken the ice and are prepared to expand on all the information gleaned from yesterday’s, Week 1 Reading.  Chart Your Progress Readings need to link together and organically develop. The questions, or query’s sought for each Reading, may vary, but all must link, as everyone’s life is multi-faceted with so many inter-related scenarios developing and interacting all around the same situation. We cannot separate every aspect of our life so that it stands alone. Regardless of how hard we try to compartmentalise our various roles, they will invariably cross over or invade each other’s territory.

The Minor Arcana demonstrates the individual aspects of our personality in the Suits of Wands, Cups, Swords and Pentacles. Their story-lines are built around the archetypal personalities and archetypal situations associated with each Element. Even though they walk their own path, they cannot help but be affected by their fellow Suits’ influences. The Swords have quite a difficult path to tread but do not for one moment think that The Cups Suit are marching along happy, oblivious to their Sword neighbours’ plight. If the mind is upset or distressed, then it will have a very strong impact on the emotions too, Cups. It will also limit the strength and enthusiasm of the Wands. It might very well paralyse the Pentacles. I tell you all this so that you may better understand the dynamics that are at play in Chart Your Progress Readings. You must identify connections as you proceed from week to week.

In the first Reading we established Sharon’s status, her frame of mind and the exciting, if sometimes scary, journey she had embarked upon. We now want to move beyond that in all directions to examine what personal goals are invested in this adventure which has been set in motion with The Ace of Wands and The Wheel of Fortune. She has grabbed her Wand and jumped aboard the Wheel, so what is it she wants to achieve? What does she want to happen? Let us begin.

Chart Your Progress Reading – Week 2

Sharon – So here are the cards for my next reading. I was torn between asking more about my work and for guidance on my emotional life but as I am putting the work stuff on the back burner for a little longer, I decided to seek guidance on my emotional life and relationships. The cards are – the two of wands – the moon – the three of cups. Very much looking forward to my next reading, thank you so much! Read the rest of this entry

Trying Times – No Gain Without Pain

Hi to all my Tarot Friends around the World,

The Fool (0) UprightPage of Pentacles Upright3 of Pentacles Upright 5 of Pentacles Upright

So sorry I have been missing for the last while. A combination of a bad flu dose on top of a heavy exam schedule in college. It will all be over by June so I am just keeping my head down and trying to wade through all the work as best as I can. The annoying thing is that I signed up for this Digital Technology Course to learn the skills that would help me develop my new Truly Teach Me Tarot website which has been sitting waiting for me to finish configuring on WordPress.org. Part of the training involves developing a website and digital marketing campaign for a small to medium enterprise business. Before I signed up for the course I attended an open information day and made inquiries as to whether I could use my own project instead of being assigned one by the college. I explained to them that I could not neglect my own site in order to build one for another. They consulted with the Head of College and I was told that although it had never been done before, they could see no reason as to why I could not work on my own project. I was delighted by this news and duly signed up.

Unfortunately things have not worked out as expected. I have had to plough through module after module of non relevant subjects, many of which I have covered in previous courses. On top of that there have been non-stop tedious assignments which have taken up so much of my time. At the information day, some people asked about the workload and whether it would spill over into our weekends. Some people had weekend jobs or family commitments, and were worried about juggling it all. We were reassured that there would be sufficient time in the class day to complete all assignments. Of course it has not worked out like that. Read the rest of this entry

Will There be a Reconciliation? – Feedback from The Querant

Will There be a Reconciliation? – Feedback from The Querant

The Magician (I) Upright

Page of Wands UprightQueen of Swords UprightThe Hermit Upright

Below is the response from The Querant in relation to the Reading I posted for her on Monday The 23rd of February.

Dear Querant,

Thank you so much for providing me with Feedback from the Reading I did for you on Monday. Now that a two-way flow of communication has opened up, so too have the Cards and their Stories. There is now so much more to see in this Reading and I have a few suggestions to make after reading your response. (see below Querant’s response)

*********************************

With the 3 card reading, the Four of Swords in the past position is on point. It was a pretty dramatic end, a lot of bad feelings involved and it indeed was built up over a long period of time. I was feeling insecure about how/if it was developing in the right direction because the lack of communication, consistency and effort was building up for a long time. The other person involved asked me for a second chance and when the opportunity was handed and still no major effort was put in after so many promises, I knew I had to say goodbye even though deep inside that wasn’t what I really wanted. I just couldn’t go on with never knowing where I stand with this person. I wasn’t being a priority and there were too many excuses for this.

What also came between us was the distance. We live in the same country but a couple of hours away from each other and we just couldn’t seem to figure out how to make things work because of that. I am thinking about visiting the other persons city in about a month and I don’t know if I should reach out and say this because we ended on such a bad note.

The Hermit in present position also makes sense because I do feel lonely. I gave my all into this and after everything went down hill, I’ve felt lost. I do understand and agree that I need to be alone for a while and just learn how to not be so dependent on someone else/needing someone else. More time to just reflect and get some ”fresh air” is needed if we decide to ever enter each other lives again, or perhaps to realize that we need to stay away.

For the outcome, I know there will be only be a reconciliation if we decide to not let the distance get in the way and if big changes are made. I’ve got a lot of trust issues now because of the broken promises that was made and we can only reconcile if the other person proves that things will never go back to the way the were and steps up to the plate.

For the 10 card reading, you’re right when you say that others consider it an inappropriate match and there is much opposition to this relationship. This is because I wasn’t treated fairly. I’ve got a lot of ”You deserve so much better”, ”You’re worth so much more than this” etc.

I don’t know how to precisely interpret Page of Wands as current influences. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I’m thinking about visiting the other persons city and if I should mention it, which is risky because of everything that has happened, as I mentioned before?

When it comes to obstacles in this reading I am wondering if the Queen of Swords-card is about me? This is because I recognize myself when you say ”…sharp edge of her tongue on many occasions” (when I had enough) and ”If there is something going on and The Queen of Swords finds out, there will be hell to pay for she will drive her Sword into all involved.” But I also have to say that I know the other person is the real obstacle because I haven’t done anything severe to mess up the relationship, I knew that I was trying my best the whole time and I wanted the other person to do the same.

The Three of Swords coming in for past influences echoes the Four of Swords in the previous reading, just like you said, so it makes sense.

The Ace of Swords in the goals and destiny position is also on point about wanting to sever ties and connections that stand in the way of this relationship.

”There is a need for people around the Querant; family and friends to give their blessing” is correct because if me and the other person were to ever enter each others lives again there is a lot that has to be proven. They’ve been seeing how much I’ve been hurting and don’t want to see me this way again. The Eight of Swords representing the influences of family and friends is precise.

Everything about the Queen of Cups represents me; I do love happy endings so it isn’t strange that I’m asking about a possible reconciliation.

The Page of Swords in the hopes and fears position is definitely talking about my insecurity, a sense of paranoia and suspicion.

The Magician for the outcome is a bit unclear just like the situation itself. Of course I hope this is positive and suggests plans and ideas manifesting in the real world, but I do realize that I need to take of my rose-tinted glasses. Just because I wish for things to turn around and for it to be a happy ending doesn’t mean it will necessarily happened. I cannot make a person change for the better and ”make things right” if the person has no desire to do so. At the end of the day all I want is to be treated right. Time will only tell how this will go but as for right now I know I need time to myself. If this isn’t meant to work out then I know something much better is waiting for me.

A Love Reading Request – Will There be a Reconciliation?

A Love Reading Request – Will There be a Reconciliation?

4 of Swords Upright The Hermit Upright 10 of Cups Upright

I received a request for help with this Reading a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, I am only getting to it now due to a heavy college schedule. I normally post back to the person with my views but have decided to include this Reading in a Blog Post instead. Obviously I have not included any personal information such as names or location etc. I receive many enquiries but can only respond to a certain number. However, please note that these Reading Requests come to me via the Comments Box, and when replied to, automatically can be viewed by anyone visiting the site. If you do not wish your Reading to be posted publicly, please mention this. Even if you fail to do so, I will never post details of users name or email address on the public posts.

I am currently weighed down with College Assignments, and as a result have precious little time to write on my site. However, I am working away in the background getting a bit done here and there. I will be releasing Part I of the re-worked Knight of Pentacles in the coming week. This is the Card Imagery Description and Personality Profile part. The Upright and Reversed Meanings will be posted once each stage is complete. Thank you for your patience and I look forward to getting stuck back into my full writing in the next couple of months.

************************************

Dear Querant, you say that you pulled these Three Cards in relation to a Love Reading and wish to know if The Ten of Cups suggests a reconciliation. In my response to you I cautioned about the Ten of Cups being a Stage Card and that it can often appear in a Spread when we wish and desire a certain outcome in a relationship. I asked you to check the surrounding cards, and if it seemed to be totally out-of-place, or looked awkward sitting in the Spread, there could be a chance that you are looking at a Tainted Reading. The Ten of Cups may have appeared because you drew it towards you with emotional desire.

You have now supplied the remaining Cards in the Spread. You have used the Three Card Spread; Past, Present, Future for this Reading. So let us have a little look. You have also supplied a more detailed Spread you did on a previous occasion. We will take a look at that one afterwards.

I am also interested to hear from other site visitors who would like to contribute. As you are all aware, it is quite difficult to do these Cold Style Readings as we cannot ask questions, and there are some many variables and probabilities involved. We will try to do our best and will look at it as a learning experience. I do hope our Querant gains some useful insight from the Readings below.

***********************************

Love Reading – Querant asks about The Ten of Cups reflecting a possible reconciliation.

4 of Swords Upright The Hermit Upright 10 of Cups Upright

Four of Swords         The Hermit                       Ten of Cups

Well, with the Four of Swords in the Past Position, it is not hard to see that you have obviously gone through a very stressful period in relation to the relationship you refer to. Now this card could point to illness and a lot of other things, but when you mention a reconciliation I cannot help but think that there was a pretty dramatic end to this relationship in the past. There would have been much tension involved, arguments and bad feelings. I think this was probably building up over a long period of time and your relationship may have broken down bit by bit. However long it took in coming about, the end was quite a blow and left you burnt out, exhausted and deeply hurt. I am not sure if you have had much time for anything in your life during this stage as you would have been psychologically very low. You might possibly have withdrawn in an attempt to make sense of it all. Now as I tell you all this, it may not be you these meanings apply to, but rather your partner, so we will have to take that on board. Issues in your relationship, or on a personal level came to crisis stage. There was a death like feeling about the end; nothing left to say or argue about, too tired to fight anymore, and too weary to care. Someone, or both, needed to crawl into their own corner or shell and figure out what was going on. Someone may have abruptly left.

As a result, you have gone through a very low time and are probably not very socially active right now. The Hermit coming in as the Present Card carries several meanings for you. He highlights loneliness and a feeling of having spent enough time in despair and out of circulation. He suggests a time of great reflection and introspection. There comes a time after deep loss when we reach a point of transition. Much self-knowledge has been gained from our journey through pain and distress. We can see life in a new perspective and seek change, and to be truer to our inner-self. The Hermit can suggest counselling or the need for professional help in this area. It is The Hermit who holds the mirror up close so that you can see your true reflection. However, who or what you see looking back at you may come as shock, for The Hermit’s mirror holds special magic. What reflects back at you is your inner-self, also all the facades you have worn, and all the personalities you have projected on to others. It is a time for awakening and taking full responsibility for where you are in life, both for good and bad. The Hermit will help you through the this voyage of self-discovery and growth. The Four of Swords very often has to spend time with The Hermit before stability returns and a new focus emerges. I feel a sense that you are ready to return to normal life once more and are eager to come in out of the cold. You might be eager for a reconciliation thinking that all the fuss has died down, and that you are more stable in your self. Your ex-partner may not be in the same frame of mind as you so you must bear this in mind. It does not mean that they do not seek a reconciliation at some stage, but it may be too soon for them. Messages for The World 2015

Last Three Cards – The High Priestess, The Hanged Man and Temperance

The High Priestess UprightThe Hanged Man UprightTemperence Upright

The High Priestess – As we approach the closing months of 2015, we see a strong attempt to restore balance and peace in the world. The High Priestess  represents the feminine balancing force in Tarot. This feminine aspect is not for the sole use of the female gender. To be healthy balanced human beings we need an appropriate mix of both the feminine and masculine aspect. Therefore those of the female gender who exclude, or are forbidden to access the masculine side of their nature, will likely become subservient and extremely passive. They will be unable to stand up for themselves and will feel a lesser being. They will allow themselves to be controlled and dominated. They become overly emotional and ineffective. However they come into powerful alignment when they are allowed to freely nurture their masculine aspect in appropriate measure. This allows them to be assertive when necessary, to be independent and aware of their rights and importance. They become whole beings who can hold their heads high and take their place in the world feeling confident and able.  They combine their loving, compassionate, nurturing, peace seeking and harmonious side with the action oriented, assertive drive of the masculine principle.

There are many humans in the world who have turned their back on the High Priestess,  and have denounced or belittled her. She holds no rank, or significance. She is often much despised and is severely restricted. They refuse her access, and as a result they lack her understanding, grace and compassionate nature. Read the rest of this entry

A Reading Request Plucked from my Spam Folder

Greetings to all my Tarot Friends around the World,

Truly Teach Me Tarot Course

Thank you to those who contributed their interpretations for The Six of Cups Reversed and The Tower. I  have now posted these contributions. They  can be viewed in the Comments Section by scrolling down to the end of the Post found at this Link. Your Comments should have been posted sooner but I have been experiencing awful internet problems throughout the last week. Better late than never they say.

Just to let you all know that I am busy re-working The Knight of Pentacles and hope to have him ready for viewing in the next couple of weeks. There will also be a New Year Reading for you to try out.

My personal news is that I have gone back to college.  I am now in Dublin four days a week so have a tight schedule and heavy workload. However, my college course is in Digital Technology, and all going well, it will help me develop my new site in a much more efficient manner going forward into 2015. Exhausting, but all in a good cause!

The Devil UprightThe Tower UprightThe High Priestess UprightThe World UprightThe Heirophant UprightWheel of Fortune UprightStrength Upright

Now back to the Reading mentioned in my Post Title.  I found this in my Spam Folder, sent from a Site Visitor who asked for some insight into the Cards she had drawn; The Devil, The Tower, The High Priestess, The World, The Hierophant, The Wheel of Fortune and Strength....Wow!  I don’t think this is Spam so I have decided to take a look at it. I will refrain from passing on the identity of this visitor as she may have wanted to deal with this privately.

There is no Question to go on. Neither is there any further information e.g.  Was all the Deck used or just the Major Arcana? Had any of the Cards being Reversed before drawing these seven? Which Spread did she use, or did she just draw a specific number? Are the Cards for her, or another?

Because there are Seven Cards, I am going to take the liberty of laying them out in The Horse Shoe Spread. I am also going to assume she used only the Major Arcana as it would be unusual to get all Seven Cards as Majors. Judging by the Cards she drew, I will presume she has quite strong reasons for seeking insight from the Tarot. This was not a casual approach.

Like the last time, I will give my impressions and theories but would also appreciate some contributions from anyone who would like to offer theirs. Remember there are so many ways to interpret each Card, and therefore Spread, we may all get varying interpretations. However, when they are blended together this Reading could be quite dynamic. So whoever is willing, let us now have a go.

As I gaze upon these Cards I sense a battle or fierce struggle to overcome some pretty strong issues or challenges. I believe that whoever these Cards represent is desperate to make a bid for freedom or seeks to extricate themselves from a situation or person that has been exerting considerable control in their life. Judging by The Devil and Tower Card, the influence of this control has had a negative impact. Read the rest of this entry

I trust you are all enjoying the festive season and not overindulging too much. Here in Ireland, the stores and streets have been their usual crazy self with people dashing and rushing from shop to shop, weighed down with bags and bags of presents and special treats. The Irish go mad at this time of the year and all caution is thrown to the wind. Children have been wild with excitement for the last couple of weeks but I have also seen the tears and tantrums when it all became too much. Stress creeps in regardless of how happy and joyful we all appear to be, so I do hope that most of you are getting to sit down today, for a couple of hours at least. It would be a shame to miss the whole thing because you were too busy or too shattered.

Conor and Christmas

This time of year is very difficult for many people for it brings painful memories of loved ones gone and times past. I lost my 11-year-old son at this time of year in 2007 and I have found the last few weeks, and especially yesterday, quite awful to get through. I became quite lost in sorrow and grief, and worried how I would cope. Today, is not as bad as I expected so hopefully I am beginning to come out of my mournful self. I think it was seeing all the shoppers and listening in on their excited chatter about what they were buying and when the tree was going up. I watched the wonder and awe on the faces of the little children as they headed in to visit Santa in shopping centers as my heart twisted and lurched with my loss. Where was my son? So many memories and all those special times I took for granted. I saw my son in their faces, crazy with excitement, wanting everything he laid eyes on. I thought  of his long lists for poor Santa which he normally started compiling from sometime in early October. My frenzied rush to shops to make sure a certain toy or game hadn’t run out. The hiding of gifts in attics and in neighbours’ homes. All gone now. Of course he would be nearly 19 years old, long past Santa stage, and probably looking for Xbox games, new phone or the latest tablet, clothes, or maybe just money. He might have a girlfriend, or two, college friends and possibly a car. Yes, all gone now and we will never know. All that is left are memories and ghosts of Christmas past.

I just thought I would share  a little of the Irish Holiday Season with you in the following videos so you can see for yourself how important family are at this time of the year.

This one is not from The Holiday period but reflects the type of entertainment we Irish lay on for home comers and visitors at our National Airport in Dublin.

And of course Christmas would not be Christmas without our Shane McGowan and The Pogues with their Christmas song ‘Fariytale of New York’.

Happy Holidays to one and All from Ireland,

Nollaig Shona, (Happy Christmas in Irish)
