Extract Taken From The Wands’ Book of Love –
The Five of Wands
Below is another extract from The Wands’ Book of Love – Five of Wands I am currently working on. This is my project for 2017. There will be Five Tarot Books of Love in total which will be available to purchase as PDF Downloads for personal study and exploration.
My aim in creating these Tarot Books of Love is to explore in detail, as many potential interpretations both Upright and Reversed, that may pertain to love, romance, relationships and sex. This compilation is a a combination of multiple approaches which digs deep into the imagery and associated meanings of each card. Although there is a huge amount of ground covered in my search for understanding in each card, this list is not exhaustive. There are many more avenues to investigate. The interpretations I have provided may spark more for the individual reader. The idea is to work with the Element, the Number and Traditional Interpretations, but to let your Creative Imagination take you further. Each card holds multiple archetypal scenarios, enough to create any novel, movie or box-set. Once you start to delve deeper and deeper, the more is discovered. In writing these individual books I have to step into the energy of the appropriate Element and work with it from one card to another. In this manner, a story unfolds as per the energy and theme of the Element. I am telling the Wands’s Story of Love through the energy of Fire. In understanding more and more about the Element of Fire in this manner, I have acquired an intuitive feel for it. I am happy to share this extract with all my followers.
Writing about The Five of Wands has been challenging, as there is so much to say. I discovered there was more to be said about it in Reverse than Upright, which exposes the dilemma of Five. Upright it can be unsettling. When Reversed it’s like using a fork to pick up mercury. One moment you have it, and the next its gone again. It is a scattered energy when Upright, and unless it has settled in Reverse, it can become even more scattered.
I do hope you find the following of interest, and that it helps expand your understanding of the nature of Fire in Relationship Readings. I look forward to working on the Six of Wands. Although The Six of Wands is a dynamic card, it will be light relief in comparison to the Five.

Five of Wands – When the Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going?
Pictorial Key To The Tarot (Arthur Edward Waite) Divinatory Meanings: Imitation, as, for example, sham fight, but also the strenuous competition and struggle of the search after riches and fortune. In this sense, it connects with the battle of life. Hence some attributions say that it is a card of gold, gain, opulence. Reversed: Litigation, disputes, trickery, contradiction.
5 – Disturbance and unease in a relationship. Unexpected events and issues. Fighting against Change.
Five – Blowing things out of proportion, Change, Fighting for/against Change, Disruption, Conflict, Feeling Conflicted, Competition for the one you love. Competitive Relationship, External Interference, Relationship going through a rough time. Incompatibility, Lack of Compromise, Fire-Fighting, External/Internal Demands, No Time for love/romance/your partner. Bickering, fighting, arguments and clashes of personality. Egos. Difficult babies/children. Large families.
Yes or No Card? – Yes, to good healthy competition. Yes to sticking with it. Yes, to rising to challenge. No to petty arguments and rivalry. No to aggression. No, find order first. Too chaotic.
We have now reached the mid-point of the Wand’s journey through Love with Fire. Except for a mild bit of uncertainty, or hesitation in the Two, the Wands have had a clear run of it when Upright. Fire likes to travel and expand. It does not like to be held back or restricted. It is a positive forward flowing energy, that thrives on momentum and enthusiasm. From the Ace to Four, it has pretty much run unrestricted and bathed in the glow of everything working out. It has had its way most of the time. The sun has shone down on the Upright Wands, making them feel blessed and joyful. There was much to celebrate, with no issues to bother about.
The Five changes matters, and for the first time, Fire’s path is blocked or challenged. Fire will aim to go over, under and around any obstacles, if going through them seems tedious or unsettling. The jubilant and triumphant Fire is disturbed, and it is unsure how it will react. Fire in a healthy state will choose to work through the challenge or obstacle, before continuing on its path, as it is not a quitter. It may take time to work it out, but it is the best way. Avoiding the challenge or obstacle may seem like a quick fix, but this challenge will be encountered again and again until it is acted on. Transitioning through Five for Wands is extremely significant. How they handle the issues thrown up by Five could determine how successful their relationship is in the long run. It is a very defining time for them. This is the first real dilemma they have come up against in their relationship. Although it may be causing a bit of drama, it is not dreadfully serious. If they cannot successful work through issues at this level, how will they cope with even greater ones in the future.
Wands, driven by Fire are positive and optimistic when Upright. They should be well equipped to tackle Five and determinedly see it through. Relationships experience their first bump in the road and may feel rattled. Their foundations will be tested for signs of any weakness or fault lines. If a relationship has been built out of the Reversed Ace, Reversed, Two, Reversed, Three and Reversed Four, The Five has the potential to take it down. Incompatibility, superficial feelings, and loose commitment will be exposed by Five. This could mark the end of the journey for some relationships as they hit a defining rough patch. The Five will separate the wheat from the chaff in relationships. Only strong, positive, committed ones will be permitted to journey on in the Upright Aspect. Weak, negative or unhealthy relationships can continue, but they may fall from one Reversed Aspect to another. The challenge for relationships is to battle through the Five and emerge triumphantly the other side, or concede defeat and withdraw.
The Five of Wands can be a tricky card to read as it carries shifting energy. It really depends on the theme of surrounding cards and the querant’s issue. On one level, it is an assertive positive card, full of life and activity, but on another level, it is overpowering, aggressive and challenging, even when upright. Your reaction to this card may bring relief or panic as a situation blows wide open. One may not be sure if it would be best in Reverse as it does suggest a more balanced energy.
However, Reversed cards can bring in extremes of the upright energy. In this case, the Five of Wands is chaotic and challenging enough when upright. Why might we look for even more in the the Reverse? It is probably best to read both the Upright and Reversed interpretations when looking for extremes. In the Five of Wands a battle has already broken out, so we are in the midst of chaos. When it reverses, sides have either backed down or stepped up the attack. Whatever way you look at it, there is change and upheaval that cannot be escaped. Brushing issues under the carpet or attempting to look the other way will not work as the issue is already upon you. You cannot escape into the upright and make it all go away as something is up regardless of which direction the card is pointing. You might have to think on your feet as you try to work your way out. This is not a peaceful time. It will however be interesting, and it would be wise to sit up and take note of what is actually going on. Knowledge gained now will stand to you in the future as chaos does have a habit of taking us by surprise. When the going gets tough the tough get going.
The Five of Wands generally brings change in its wake. In its Upright Aspect, change is either embraced and viewed as an interesting challenge, or it is fought against and resisted. Your relationship may be changing and there is a lot of uncertainty about it. There has been a shift in energy which will bring couples closer together or drive them apart. Your relationship may have plateaued for some time, fallen into a way of being, just drifting along. Something has, or will happen, that could cause upheaval with the need for a fresh approach. One partner may have grown bored with the current trend and is taking steps to address it. This will leave the other partner on shaky ground as suddenly the relationship as they know it cannot be relied on. There could be a mad scramble to fix things in an attempt to bring it back to the way it was. This may not be the answer. Your relationship is in need of a reshuffle. Time to pull all those wands out and check for signs of dry rot or lack of growth. Some of them may be quite lifeless and in need of attention, sunshine, heat, and hydration. Some may need to be replaced. Reconstruct them in a manner which will facilitate revival and encourage new growth. Change is upon you. Try and be open to healthy change.
Goal Posts Keep Shifting
Here we find a relationship that cannot settle. It might suggest a romance that blows hot and cold, is on one day, and off the next. Couple’s cannot decide what to do with it. There could be temporary break-ups where partners are free to date others. Invariably they get back together again. Friends and family find it hard to keep up with the relationship status as it swings between current and ancient………..Read More…. Extract from The Wands’ Book of Love – Five of Wands
And so we come to the final reading for Sharon. We have learned much about her at this stage. Although we do not know Sharon on a personal basis, we have established a very strong understanding of the life path she is on at present. We can see that the focus of her intention lies not in just one small area of life but is far-reaching and overlapping. The life situation she sought help with from the Tarot is not isolated from the rest of her life. Indeed her life and present situation is full of many chapters, each one relevant and vital to the understanding of the overall story. Without investigating the individual chapters highlighted in the previous three readings, we might make impulsive uninformed judgments, or throw about conflicting advice. What we have seen so far are recurring messages from the Tarot that encourage Sharon to seek an independent path at present so that she may develop as an individual, thus allowing her potential, dreams and ambitions to blossom and flourish.
Remaining Objective When Reading – My Musings!
Sharon’s extremely positive feedback highlights the fact that she already knows, without ever having to look at any Tarot Cards, what it is she needs to do. However, it is always nice to get a second opinion. We must always remember that these are my interpretations. Another Reader with a different Reading style might come up with something completely different. You see Tarot Readers as quite similar to artists or novelists. Three artists are presented with a commission to paint a coastal scene. All are given the same details, but when the paintings are revealed each one is totally different from the next. The same with three novelists who set about the task of writing a story based in, let’s say, war-time Paris. When we read the three stories, they bear no resemblance to each other at all, even though the writers were all given the same outline to work with. It all comes down to how the individual interprets internal visuals and information they absorb or are fed. Ask three people who were present at an incident to describe what happened, and yet again you will arrive at conflicting interpretations of what each one saw, or perceived to be happening. Our interpretations are generally influenced by our personal experiences or attitudes to the situation in question.
As Tarot Readers we must strive to step aside from knee-jerk interpretations and remain objective as much as possible. I personally went through a disastrous abusive marriage that ended in misery. I suffered much at the aggressive hands of my ex-husband. He left me for a young girl who was only 14 years old at the time. My son was less than a year old, and it pretty much destroyed me for a long time. I do a lot of Readings for men. Indeed most of my clients are male. In this business one deals with a lot of very sad relationship issues. Some of my male clients come for help because they are in an unhappy marriage and want to leave. Some have met another and no longer love their partner or spouse. If I were to allow my personal experiences (thankfully I have moved on and let them go), to interfere with these readings I would accuse them all of being b*****ds! Instead I listen to their stories and help them reach the best decision for all by asking the Tarot for guidance on a positive way forward.
Likewise I have many female clients who arrive distressed after their partner or spouse has left or cheated on them. They are often full of hatred, hell-bent on revenge, and want everyone to rally to their war cry (I was there too myself at one stage). Unfortunately they have come to the wrong Reader for that. I tell it as I see it in as nice a way as possible, but in some situations the Tarot roars at you rather than whispering its sublime messages. Just in case you think I am being sexist in any way, and to keep the scales balanced, I also have female clients who no longer love their partner or spouse. They too are well capable of falling out of love, feeling disillusioned and wanting to leave. And of course there are male clients who feel destroyed or very angry about their partner or spouse. Regardless of gender, Unhappiness is unhappiness.
As Tarot Readers or Consultants, we must sit somewhere in between and remain objective, regardless of our personal feelings on the matter. Your personal experiences in life should make you a wiser and more understanding Tarot Reader. They should never make you a rigid, bitter or highly opinionated one. Work hard not to project negative personal experiences into your Readings. Tainted Readings do neither the Querant nor The Reader any favors.
Now Back to The Final Reading ……………..
The Final Reading
Now that Sharon has explored some very important areas of her current situation, she is ready to completely focus on how she might best go about establishing the independent life she fought so hard to secure. It is time for Sharon to set about achieving long-held goals and ambitions. She is eager to move forward and is not afraid to do it all on her own. This is her chance now and her final question reveals the incredible talent and ability she has kept suppressed for so long. This reading is very important for Sharon as her personal pride, happiness and fulfillment are at stake. Her wings had been clipped, but fate has given them back to her. How high and far will she fly?
Sharon – I would like my final reading to be about my independent path – about developing my career and financial security. but also following my life purpose. My career background is journalism/writing and counselling/guidance/healing and I feel like I want to combine the two in a business promoting personal growth in women – at the moment I’m thinking book, blog, workshops (the idea of group work and communicating through written word appeals more than one to one work.)
Hi To all my Tarot Friends around the World,
After getting off to an excellent start yesterday with Chart Your Progress Tarot Reading – Week 1, I now bring you the next Reading in this series, Week 2. In the first Reading, we set the background scene, found our central theme and got our bearings. We now have something very solid on which to build the next, and indeed, all subsequent Readings. We gained a real insight into Sharon’s situation, her personality and spirit. This has given us invaluable information and we can also see a wonderfully intricate story building around her.
There is indeed a vibrancy around this Empress woman who we cannot help but admire. However, we must strive to remain objective for the following three Readings. Life is never a bed of roses, and the journey we all face, rarely runs smooth, or as anticipated. We must be prepared to interpret any further scenarios that may arise regardless of how glorious her initial Reading is.
The Ace of Wands has certainly launched itself, but where will it go next? None the less, we have broken the ice and are prepared to expand on all the information gleaned from yesterday’s, Week 1 Reading. Chart Your Progress Readings need to link together and organically develop. The questions, or query’s sought for each Reading, may vary, but all must link, as everyone’s life is multi-faceted with so many inter-related scenarios developing and interacting all around the same situation. We cannot separate every aspect of our life so that it stands alone. Regardless of how hard we try to compartmentalise our various roles, they will invariably cross over or invade each other’s territory.
The Minor Arcana demonstrates the individual aspects of our personality in the Suits of Wands, Cups, Swords and Pentacles. Their story-lines are built around the archetypal personalities and archetypal situations associated with each Element. Even though they walk their own path, they cannot help but be affected by their fellow Suits’ influences. The Swords have quite a difficult path to tread but do not for one moment think that The Cups Suit are marching along happy, oblivious to their Sword neighbours’ plight. If the mind is upset or distressed, then it will have a very strong impact on the emotions too, Cups. It will also limit the strength and enthusiasm of the Wands. It might very well paralyse the Pentacles. I tell you all this so that you may better understand the dynamics that are at play in Chart Your Progress Readings. You must identify connections as you proceed from week to week.
In the first Reading we established Sharon’s status, her frame of mind and the exciting, if sometimes scary, journey she had embarked upon. We now want to move beyond that in all directions to examine what personal goals are invested in this adventure which has been set in motion with The Ace of Wands and The Wheel of Fortune. She has grabbed her Wand and jumped aboard the Wheel, so what is it she wants to achieve? What does she want to happen? Let us begin.
Chart Your Progress Reading – Week 2
Sharon – So here are the cards for my next reading. I was torn between asking more about my work and for guidance on my emotional life but as I am putting the work stuff on the back burner for a little longer, I decided to seek guidance on my emotional life and relationships. The cards are – the two of wands – the moon – the three of cups. Very much looking forward to my next reading, thank you so much! Read the rest of this entry
I’m Back !
Hi to all my Tarot Friends in the World,
Just want to let you all know that I am back at my Truly Teach Me Tarot Desk once more and gearing up to get stuck into some serious writing. I will be dealing with all my outstanding comments and correspondence first, so if you have sent a comment and heard nothing back from me, hang on in there as I wade through the pile. It is just me who runs this whole site and does all the writing, including building the new site, which still has to be launched!!! I have many roles to play and at times it can become quite a juggling act. Throwing college into the mix, certainly didn’t help. You have all been so patient with me during this time and I really want to thank you for your support. I have had to put everything to the side in the last few months as deadlines for assignments and college exams sucked every second of my time and energy. I have officially finished college after a grueling year of information overload in Digital Technology. I must say it has been one of the toughest times of my life, and certainly not helped by fatigue from major surgery less than a year ago, and the need for further surgery in May of this year. I am not as young as I once was, and by the end of college on the 29th of June was practically in a state of collapse from nervous exhaustion and horrendous insomnia.
Once it was all over, I was packed off to the Atlantic seaside town of Clonakilty in West Cork, Ireland, to rest and restore my troubled mind and body. My partner’s house is there right beside the beach of Inchydoney, and apart from one day of horrendous rain, we were blessed with glorious sunshine. I arrived looking pale, stressed and wan, but by the time I departed a week later, clad in flip-flops and shorts, I looked tanned and much healthier. I really didn’t want to come home so soon as I felt I needed more time. Many of you will know that I have suffered from a myriad of complicated and obscure health problems in recent years, and several of them flared up while in my final two months of college. A week was certainly not going to fully heal me.
However, return I did, but something very important happened before I left, and I hold the Atlantic Ocean responsible for it. For the last couple of years I have been in a dilemma as to whether I should pack up and leave where I live in Kildare and move down South to my partner in Clonakilty. I have dithered and dawdled, and worried about discommoding my three cats by taking them away from the home they have lived in for so long. Up until now I have been incapable of making a decision, and that in itself has caused considerable stress. It means my partner must travel to visit me and vice versa. It has been a ridiculous scenario to be living in for grown adults, but there you go, that is what we have done.
Anyhow, I think it was either the last or second last day of my stay, while I was standing in the ocean staring out to sea, that a moment of enlightenment came over me, and there and then I decided what must happen. The thoughts of leaving to go back to Kildare, left me with a terrible sense of homesickness for Clonakilty. I shouldn’t feel so awful about going home, but I did. I wouldn’t have batted an eyelid if someone rang me, let’s say a government official, and declared that I no longer had a house in Kildare, no longer had any possessions or rights there, and that returning wasn’t an option I could entertain. I probably would have asked what was to happen to the cats, but other than that, I would have said, “okay”, politely thanked him and hung up before jumping up and down on the spot with glee.
Will There be a Reconciliation? – Feedback from The Querant
Below is the response from The Querant in relation to the Reading I posted for her on Monday The 23rd of February.
Thank you so much for providing me with Feedback from the Reading I did for you on Monday. Now that a two-way flow of communication has opened up, so too have the Cards and their Stories. There is now so much more to see in this Reading and I have a few suggestions to make after reading your response. (see below Querant’s response)
With the 3 card reading, the Four of Swords in the past position is on point. It was a pretty dramatic end, a lot of bad feelings involved and it indeed was built up over a long period of time. I was feeling insecure about how/if it was developing in the right direction because the lack of communication, consistency and effort was building up for a long time. The other person involved asked me for a second chance and when the opportunity was handed and still no major effort was put in after so many promises, I knew I had to say goodbye even though deep inside that wasn’t what I really wanted. I just couldn’t go on with never knowing where I stand with this person. I wasn’t being a priority and there were too many excuses for this.
What also came between us was the distance. We live in the same country but a couple of hours away from each other and we just couldn’t seem to figure out how to make things work because of that. I am thinking about visiting the other persons city in about a month and I don’t know if I should reach out and say this because we ended on such a bad note.
The Hermit in present position also makes sense because I do feel lonely. I gave my all into this and after everything went down hill, I’ve felt lost. I do understand and agree that I need to be alone for a while and just learn how to not be so dependent on someone else/needing someone else. More time to just reflect and get some ”fresh air” is needed if we decide to ever enter each other lives again, or perhaps to realize that we need to stay away.
For the outcome, I know there will be only be a reconciliation if we decide to not let the distance get in the way and if big changes are made. I’ve got a lot of trust issues now because of the broken promises that was made and we can only reconcile if the other person proves that things will never go back to the way the were and steps up to the plate.
For the 10 card reading, you’re right when you say that others consider it an inappropriate match and there is much opposition to this relationship. This is because I wasn’t treated fairly. I’ve got a lot of ”You deserve so much better”, ”You’re worth so much more than this” etc.
I don’t know how to precisely interpret Page of Wands as current influences. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I’m thinking about visiting the other persons city and if I should mention it, which is risky because of everything that has happened, as I mentioned before?
When it comes to obstacles in this reading I am wondering if the Queen of Swords-card is about me? This is because I recognize myself when you say ”…sharp edge of her tongue on many occasions” (when I had enough) and ”If there is something going on and The Queen of Swords finds out, there will be hell to pay for she will drive her Sword into all involved.” But I also have to say that I know the other person is the real obstacle because I haven’t done anything severe to mess up the relationship, I knew that I was trying my best the whole time and I wanted the other person to do the same.
The Three of Swords coming in for past influences echoes the Four of Swords in the previous reading, just like you said, so it makes sense.
The Ace of Swords in the goals and destiny position is also on point about wanting to sever ties and connections that stand in the way of this relationship.
”There is a need for people around the Querant; family and friends to give their blessing” is correct because if me and the other person were to ever enter each others lives again there is a lot that has to be proven. They’ve been seeing how much I’ve been hurting and don’t want to see me this way again. The Eight of Swords representing the influences of family and friends is precise.
Everything about the Queen of Cups represents me; I do love happy endings so it isn’t strange that I’m asking about a possible reconciliation.
The Page of Swords in the hopes and fears position is definitely talking about my insecurity, a sense of paranoia and suspicion.
The Magician for the outcome is a bit unclear just like the situation itself. Of course I hope this is positive and suggests plans and ideas manifesting in the real world, but I do realize that I need to take of my rose-tinted glasses. Just because I wish for things to turn around and for it to be a happy ending doesn’t mean it will necessarily happened. I cannot make a person change for the better and ”make things right” if the person has no desire to do so. At the end of the day all I want is to be treated right. Time will only tell how this will go but as for right now I know I need time to myself. If this isn’t meant to work out then I know something much better is waiting for me.
A Love Reading Request – Will There be a Reconciliation?
I received a request for help with this Reading a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, I am only getting to it now due to a heavy college schedule. I normally post back to the person with my views but have decided to include this Reading in a Blog Post instead. Obviously I have not included any personal information such as names or location etc. I receive many enquiries but can only respond to a certain number. However, please note that these Reading Requests come to me via the Comments Box, and when replied to, automatically can be viewed by anyone visiting the site. If you do not wish your Reading to be posted publicly, please mention this. Even if you fail to do so, I will never post details of users name or email address on the public posts.
I am currently weighed down with College Assignments, and as a result have precious little time to write on my site. However, I am working away in the background getting a bit done here and there. I will be releasing Part I of the re-worked Knight of Pentacles in the coming week. This is the Card Imagery Description and Personality Profile part. The Upright and Reversed Meanings will be posted once each stage is complete. Thank you for your patience and I look forward to getting stuck back into my full writing in the next couple of months.
Dear Querant, you say that you pulled these Three Cards in relation to a Love Reading and wish to know if The Ten of Cups suggests a reconciliation. In my response to you I cautioned about the Ten of Cups being a Stage Card and that it can often appear in a Spread when we wish and desire a certain outcome in a relationship. I asked you to check the surrounding cards, and if it seemed to be totally out-of-place, or looked awkward sitting in the Spread, there could be a chance that you are looking at a Tainted Reading. The Ten of Cups may have appeared because you drew it towards you with emotional desire.
You have now supplied the remaining Cards in the Spread. You have used the Three Card Spread; Past, Present, Future for this Reading. So let us have a little look. You have also supplied a more detailed Spread you did on a previous occasion. We will take a look at that one afterwards.
I am also interested to hear from other site visitors who would like to contribute. As you are all aware, it is quite difficult to do these Cold Style Readings as we cannot ask questions, and there are some many variables and probabilities involved. We will try to do our best and will look at it as a learning experience. I do hope our Querant gains some useful insight from the Readings below.
Love Reading – Querant asks about The Ten of Cups reflecting a possible reconciliation.
Well, with the Four of Swords in the Past Position, it is not hard to see that you have obviously gone through a very stressful period in relation to the relationship you refer to. Now this card could point to illness and a lot of other things, but when you mention a reconciliation I cannot help but think that there was a pretty dramatic end to this relationship in the past. There would have been much tension involved, arguments and bad feelings. I think this was probably building up over a long period of time and your relationship may have broken down bit by bit. However long it took in coming about, the end was quite a blow and left you burnt out, exhausted and deeply hurt. I am not sure if you have had much time for anything in your life during this stage as you would have been psychologically very low. You might possibly have withdrawn in an attempt to make sense of it all. Now as I tell you all this, it may not be you these meanings apply to, but rather your partner, so we will have to take that on board. Issues in your relationship, or on a personal level came to crisis stage. There was a death like feeling about the end; nothing left to say or argue about, too tired to fight anymore, and too weary to care. Someone, or both, needed to crawl into their own corner or shell and figure out what was going on. Someone may have abruptly left.
As a result, you have gone through a very low time and are probably not very socially active right now. The Hermit coming in as the Present Card carries several meanings for you. He highlights loneliness and a feeling of having spent enough time in despair and out of circulation. He suggests a time of great reflection and introspection. There comes a time after deep loss when we reach a point of transition. Much self-knowledge has been gained from our journey through pain and distress. We can see life in a new perspective and seek change, and to be truer to our inner-self. The Hermit can suggest counselling or the need for professional help in this area. It is The Hermit who holds the mirror up close so that you can see your true reflection. However, who or what you see looking back at you may come as shock, for The Hermit’s mirror holds special magic. What reflects back at you is your inner-self, also all the facades you have worn, and all the personalities you have projected on to others. It is a time for awakening and taking full responsibility for where you are in life, both for good and bad. The Hermit will help you through the this voyage of self-discovery and growth. The Four of Swords very often has to spend time with The Hermit before stability returns and a new focus emerges. I feel a sense that you are ready to return to normal life once more and are eager to come in out of the cold. You might be eager for a reconciliation thinking that all the fuss has died down, and that you are more stable in your self. Your ex-partner may not be in the same frame of mind as you so you must bear this in mind. It does not mean that they do not seek a reconciliation at some stage, but it may be too soon for them. A Big Welcome to 2015
Happy New Year, Bliain Nua Faoi Mhaise Duit, to all my Tarot Friends around the World,
Bonne année et bonne santé, Feliz año nuevo, Felice Anno Nuovo, Ein glückliches neues Jahr, Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu, Sehe Bokmanee Bateuseyo, Godt NytÅr, Gelukkig nieuwjaar, Boldog uj evet, Szczesliwego Nowego Roku, Gott Nytt År, Chuc mung nam moi, Sawatdee Pi Mai, Manigong Bagong Taon, Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu, Selamat Tahun Baru, Eutychismenos o kainourgios chronos, Bonan Novjaron, Stastny Novy Rok, (I am sorry if I did not include your language)
I would like to extend my thanks to all of you who have visited, followed, commented and contributed to Truly Teach Me Tarot throughout 2014. Your ongoing support and engagement is very much appreciated and has been a major incentive in helping the site develop and grow.
2015 will be a busy year with goals set to complete further sections of the Course and the re-working of the remaining Court Cards, The Queens and Kings, and The Major Arcana from The Hierophant onwards. Those long talked about Video Tutorials will eventually be making an appearance and Truly Teach Me Tarot will make the transition from WordPress.com to WordPress.org. College will continue until June, with assignments and exams to complete. It will all be a bit of a juggling act and I can visualise The Two of Pentacles featuring heavily in my life in the coming months. I certainly will need Strength and The Chariot backing me up with The Emperor keeping me organised and disciplined. Somehow or other, I will have to find time for The Empress so maybe Temperance can help me out there by ensuring a sense of balance is maintained.
On a Global level, there have been many ups and downs over the last 12 months. The world and humanity have been sent some very difficult challenges to overcome. None of us can be immune to the horrific suffering so many experienced in 2014 and continue to do so. Political struggles, war, acts of horrendous violence, repression, oppression, hatred, starvation, poverty, disease, tragedies and disasters. We have witnessed more than enough, and at times have felt emotionally overwhelmed by it all. Some of us have experienced psychological damage as we deal with the depression that follows such trauma.
As we prepare to move into 2015 we must all pause and ask questions of ourselves. Do we want a repeat of, or an even worse version of 2014? Are we just crossing our fingers, keeping our heads down and hoping for the best, or praying that The Tower won’t stop at our door as it thunders along? The world yet again has reached the brink of insanity and we cannot simply bury our heads in the sand and insist that it has nothing to do with us. History has brought us terrible lessons on many, many occasions, but have we learned from any of them? It appears we fall into the same traps over and over again, but the terrible thing is we now walk into them voluntarily and with our eyes wide open.
We all know that violent war solves nothing except breeds hatred and revenge, yet as humans we tend to seek it out over and over again as a way of settling a situation. I read a novel recently called The Death Instinct by Jed Rubenfeld. Freud features as a character in this book along with his theory called The Death Instinct which the book is named after (a very good book by the way). Freud believed that as humans we naturally crave life but only on an equal level with craving death. Without going into the in-depth analysis provided in the book (check it out on Wikipedia here) he had the belief that humanity will never be happy unless we are killing ourelves or each other, for we seek death just as much as we seek life. Therefore, there will never be a war to end all wars for we are incapable of sustaining prolonged peace. I do hope that Freud is proved wrong in this instance for it speaks of a bleak future where the art of war is becoming bloodier, more sinister and capable of horrific consequences.
As we move into a more technically advanced age, war has become very sophisticated. It has far-reaching tentacles and can no longer be referred to as something that is happening ‘over there’ or ‘somewhere else’. War, regardless of where it is being fought affects us all. We may not understand the issues being battled over, or care less what it is all about, we may believe we have enough of our own problems to have to worry about others. For those who are informed they may still feel baffled about the belief systems involved and wonder why they can not all get together and sort it out. However many who perpetrate war may want you to know about their war whether you are interested or not. They may want to make a statement, gain attention, notoriety, infamy, or lay blame any where they can, even if it is far removed from their own battlefield.
We no longer go to war. Instead war is taken to us; into our homes, onto our streets, into our shopping malls, restaurants and schools where the only battle fields we are used to involve sport and enjoyment. We shudder in disbelief and ask why? How could humans do this to each other? How could you hurt a little child? Why do they want to commit such massacres? They do it because they can and for some awful reason, they both enjoy it and justify it. And of course there is also the political involvement from all over the world, the conspiracy theories and rumours of power, oil, and wealth which funds and drives these wars, plunging the world into misery and devastation. It is said that wars never happen by accident. On the contrary, they are well planned and orchestrated. And the planners? The most powerful people in the world, and more than likely never heard of by us mere mortals. We are not talking about presidents of countries here but those on a much higher level, those who pull all the strings, the strategists, yet never get exposed to any danger themselves. These are the theories.
And the results of war? Death, loss, devastation, displacement, trauma, fear, hatred, revenge, disease, poverty, starvation, recession. If the money that was wasted on war, billions and billions worldwide, was injected into more important and relevant areas to improve our human existence, there would be no poverty or starvation. There would be access to proper health care and education for all. There would be less crime because there would be less deprivation. There would be no homelessness, we wouldn’t have to rely on charity for funding as there would be sufficient money in the state coffers to cover all. The money that had previously being wasted on war would go a long way in helping to make a better life for us all.
But we cannot fall to our knees and decide that it is all over, that we have lost or failed. It is time for all of us to pick ourselves up and focus on the positive by becoming more optimistic about the future. We all need to start making a difference. With that thought in mind I have asked the Universe to send the World, and those who reside upon it, a Special Message for 2015. How do we move forward? How can we find peace? Where is The Love and Compassion? How do we put right all the wrongs? How do we heal? What can I do? Because there are 12 months in the year, I have pulled 12 Cards, but not to represent any particular month.
Let us take a look at these 12 Cards now and take a brief message from each.
Justice – We are not exactly talking about the normal Legal System here where courts and judges decide who is guilty and who is innocent, and were sentences or punishments are issued. Justice represents the Spiritual Court of Law where only the truth is expected of us. There are no lawyers or prosecutors, and the only judge present sits within each one of us. We are both our own Judge and Jury and therefore lying or trying to escape the consequences of our actions is futile for we know the truth of us regardless of how we try to gloss it up. In the human Legal System we can try to fool others but we will always know the truth of what we did, felt or said. There is no escape in Justice who holds the double-edged Sword in one hand and a Balanced Scale in the other. Justice reminds us that there are always two sides to each story and therefore we must own up to our own responsibility instead of trying to blame others. The Scales of Justice demand balance. Any excess in one scale will off-balance the other. It is a natural law. Taking the action of placing a weight in one side of the scales will automatically result in a consequence in the other. The Knight of Swords – Sample Reading Versions 1 & 2 – Relationships
Hail Fellow Tarot Friends Around the World,
I do hope you enjoyed reading about our lovely Knight of Swords below and are now ready to explore how his presence in a Reading can be interpreted. I have chosen to concentrate on Relationships at present, but will re-visit this chap at a later stage to take a look at him in Readings from other perspectives. The Readings below are but two I have worked on for study purposes. Neither Reading ultimately defines his character, but they do show certain aspects of his personality at play in the different storylines. The Knight of Swords can not ever be every aspect of himself at the same time. None of the Court Cards can, so we must play with their characteristics and traits when interpreting them in Spreads.
Vivien (Your Tarot Teacher)
The Readings attached to the Card Spread below have been invented for teaching purposes. There are two Readings based on Relationships using the One Horse Shoe Spread. The Readings have been compiled with The Knight of Swords in mind so that we can experience how his Character or Personality could influence a Reading, how we might interpret him, and the effect he has on surrounding Cards. I have supplied a Personality Profile of The Querant for both Readings, along with the background story the Question is based on. This helps set the tone for the Reading and assists in interpretation. Without it we could easily get lost with a sea of interpretations to choose from.
I have used the same Spread for both Readings to showcase how the Card meanings can be adjusted accordingly to suit the differing Background, Nature of Querant and The Question. This same Spread could be used to interpret a General, Business or Career Reading. The story, characters and plot may change, but the underlying energies remain the same. Each Card in the Tarot can be interpreted in so many ways that all we need do is change the Question and immediately a new interpretation appears or forms. This is why it is advisable to assimilate several interpretations per Card instead of learning just one.
Note in the Second Reading how I do not stick with the positional order of Cards when Reading. I make connections and links between Cards that I believe are relevant at the time, rather than waiting until the Card in its correct order of position is reached. I also note patterns observed in the overall Spread and highlight the lack of Grounding Pentacle Cards. I make observations, and contemplate motives and theories based on the Cards at my disposal. Yes, the Readings are rather full-on, but I would rather initially demonstrate Card Reading in a dramatic manner rather than offering something wishy-washy for study purposes. Learning the Tarot could get very boring otherwise.
We must also remember that each Card in the Spread may be sending conflicting messages for more than one person or point of view in the Reading. In the first Reading below, the Seven of Cups carries separate messages for both the Querant and the young man she enquires about. One must be flexible in such matters and view the Cards as multifaceted and three-dimensional rather than flat and one-sided. In the absence of a real life Querant, Background Story and Question, I have let my imagination run free. At times I forgot I was interpreting a Spread of Fictional Cards as the story began to take on a life of its own. I actually began to believe what was going on and I began to get visuals. Of course it was all my imagination, but a Tarot Reading becomes very uninteresting if one does not apply their creative imagination when interpreting. After all, the creative imagination acts as the gateway for any psychic impulses or messages from our Higher Self. Without our creative imagination, we cannot tell the Querent’s story, or indeed our own.
Please note that your interpretation of the Spread below may be similar to mine or altogether different. There are many, many stories that could be have attached to this Spread. These are just two that I chose as Examples. Please play around with the interpretations and see which story line begins to develop for you.
Background – I met someone last week at a party and we seemed to click. He took my number and asked if he could see me again. He told me he would ring, but my friend whose party it was, told me that I shouldn’t build myself up or get too carried away. She was quite offhand about him and took it all as a bit of a laugh. I was offended by her remarks and wonder if she is jealous. I have been on my own for some time and find it hard to meet someone nice. She, my friend on the other hand, is always in and out of relationships. I don’t understand why she would not be happy for me. I really like this guy but am afraid he will not call.
Question – What I want to know is what the future holds for me and this man if he does decide to ring me to ask me out on a date?

Recent Past – The of Knight of Swords galloping in. No wonder she is drawn to this man for he is very handsome and extremely charismatic. No doubt she was attracted to his cool sophisticated manner and intrigued by all he had to say. He would have stood out from the crowd and was probably very well dressed too. He would have wooed her with his intense stare and captivating conversation. She would have been impressed by his intelligence and worldly knowledge. He was probably quite forward with her instead of beating around the bush. She would certainly have enjoyed his company and the night probably flew by. His eagerness to see her again has her feeling very special indeed. He quite likely swept her off her feet and she is loath to come back down to earth. Her friend however, does not seem to be as excited about this young man as she is, and in my belief, either knows something about him, or possibly believes they are not suited. It wasn’t exactly a warning but more of a gentle caution. Possibly he is prone to taking the phone number of every female he meets. He is the Knight of Swords, so he may be the catch of the century, or, on the other hand, hard to catch. Then again her friend might indeed be jealous, she may have her sights set on him too……………………………………...Continue Reading
