Wands’ Book of Love Extract – Five of Wands

Extract Taken From The Wands’ Book of Love –

The Five of Wands

cover1

Below is another extract from The Wands’ Book of Love – Five of Wands I am currently working on. This is my project for 2017. There will be Five Tarot Books of Love in total which will be available to purchase as PDF Downloads for personal study and exploration.

My aim in creating these Tarot Books of Love is to explore in detail, as many potential interpretations both Upright and Reversed, that may pertain to love, romance, relationships and sex. This compilation is a a combination of multiple approaches which digs deep into the imagery and associated meanings of each card. Although there is a huge amount of ground covered in my search for understanding in each card, this list is not exhaustive. There are many more avenues to investigate. The interpretations I have provided may spark more for the individual reader. The idea is to work with the Element, the Number and Traditional Interpretations, but to let your Creative Imagination take you further. Each card holds multiple archetypal scenarios, enough to create any novel, movie or box-set. Once you start to delve deeper and deeper, the more is discovered. In writing these individual books I have to step into the energy of the appropriate Element and work with it from one card to another. In this manner, a story unfolds as per the energy and theme of the Element. I am telling the Wands’s Story of Love through the energy of Fire. In understanding more and more about the Element of Fire in this manner, I have acquired an intuitive feel for it. I am happy to share this extract with all my followers.

Writing about The Five of Wands has been challenging, as there is so much to say. I discovered there was more to be said about it in Reverse than Upright, which exposes the dilemma of Five. Upright it can be unsettling. When Reversed it’s like using a fork to pick up mercury. One moment you have it, and the next its gone again. It is a scattered energy when Upright, and unless it has settled in Reverse, it can become even more scattered.

I do hope you find the following of interest, and that it helps expand your understanding of the nature of Fire in Relationship Readings. I look forward to working on the Six of Wands. Although The Six of Wands is a dynamic card, it will be light relief in comparison to the Five.

Five of Wands – When the Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going?

Pictorial Key To The Tarot (Arthur Edward Waite) Divinatory Meanings: Imitation, as, for example, sham fight, but also the strenuous competition and struggle of the search after riches and fortune. In this sense, it connects with the battle of life. Hence some attributions say that it is a card of gold, gain, opulence. Reversed: Litigation, disputes, trickery, contradiction.

5 – Disturbance and unease in a relationship. Unexpected events and issues. Fighting against Change.

Five – Blowing things out of proportion, Change, Fighting for/against Change, Disruption, Conflict, Feeling Conflicted, Competition for the one you love. Competitive Relationship, External Interference, Relationship going through a rough time. Incompatibility, Lack of Compromise, Fire-Fighting, External/Internal Demands, No Time for love/romance/your partner. Bickering, fighting, arguments and clashes of personality. Egos.  Difficult babies/children. Large families.

Yes or No Card? –  Yes, to good healthy competition. Yes to sticking with it.  Yes, to rising to challenge. No to petty arguments and rivalry. No to aggression. No, find order first. Too chaotic.

We have now reached the mid-point of the Wand’s journey through Love with Fire. Except for a mild bit of uncertainty, or hesitation in the Two, the Wands have had a clear run of it when Upright. Fire likes to travel and expand. It does not like to be held back or restricted. It is a positive forward flowing energy, that thrives on momentum and enthusiasm. From the Ace to Four, it has pretty much run unrestricted and bathed in the glow of everything working out. It has had its way most of the time. The sun has shone down on the Upright Wands, making them feel blessed and joyful. There was much to celebrate, with no issues to bother about.

The Five changes matters, and for the first time, Fire’s path is blocked or challenged. Fire will aim to go over, under and around any obstacles, if going through them seems tedious or unsettling. The jubilant and triumphant Fire is disturbed, and it is unsure how it will react. Fire in a healthy state will choose to work through the challenge or obstacle, before continuing on its path, as it is not a quitter.  It may take time to work it out, but it is the best way. Avoiding the challenge or obstacle may seem like a quick fix, but this challenge will be encountered again and again until it is acted on. Transitioning through Five for Wands is extremely significant. How they handle the issues thrown up by Five could determine how successful their relationship is in the long run. It is a very defining time for them. This is the first real dilemma they have come up against in their relationship. Although it may be causing a bit of drama, it is not dreadfully serious.  If they cannot successful work through issues at this level, how will they cope with even greater ones in the future.

Wands, driven by Fire are positive and optimistic when Upright. They should be well equipped to tackle Five and determinedly see it through. Relationships experience their first bump in the road and may feel rattled. Their foundations will be tested for signs of any weakness or fault lines. If a relationship has been built out of the Reversed Ace, Reversed, Two, Reversed, Three and Reversed Four, The Five has the potential to take it down. Incompatibility, superficial feelings, and loose commitment will be exposed by Five. This could mark the end of the journey for some relationships as they hit a defining rough patch. The Five will separate the wheat from the chaff in relationships. Only strong, positive, committed ones will be permitted to journey on in the Upright Aspect. Weak, negative or unhealthy relationships can continue, but they may fall from one Reversed Aspect to another. The challenge for relationships is to battle through the Five and emerge triumphantly the other side, or concede defeat and withdraw.

The Five of Wands can be a tricky card to read as it carries shifting energy. It really depends on the theme of surrounding cards and the querant’s issue. On one level, it is an assertive positive card, full of life and activity, but on another level, it is overpowering, aggressive and challenging, even when upright. Your reaction to this card may bring relief or panic as a situation blows wide open. One may not be sure if it would be best in Reverse as it does suggest a more balanced energy.

However, Reversed cards can bring in extremes of the upright energy. In this case, the Five of Wands is chaotic and challenging enough when upright. Why might we look for even more in the the Reverse? It is probably best to read both the Upright and Reversed interpretations when looking for extremes. In the Five of Wands a battle has already broken out, so we are in the midst of chaos. When it reverses, sides have either backed down or stepped up the attack. Whatever way you look at it, there is change and upheaval that cannot be escaped. Brushing issues under the carpet or attempting to look the other way will not work as the issue is already upon you. You cannot escape into the upright and make it all go away as something is up regardless of which direction the card is pointing. You might have to think on your feet as you try to work your way out. This is not a peaceful time. It will however be interesting, and it would be wise to sit up and take note of what is actually going on. Knowledge gained now will stand to you in the future as chaos does have a habit of taking us by surprise. When the going gets tough the tough get going.

Fighting Change

The Five of Wands generally brings change in its wake. In its Upright Aspect, change is either embraced and viewed as an interesting challenge, or it is fought against and resisted. Your relationship may be changing and there is a lot of uncertainty about it. There has been a shift in energy which will bring couples closer together or drive them apart. Your relationship may have plateaued for some time, fallen into a way of being, just drifting along. Something has, or will happen, that could cause upheaval with the need for a fresh approach. One partner may have grown bored with the current trend and is taking steps to address it. This will leave the other partner on shaky ground as suddenly the relationship as they know it cannot be relied on. There could be a mad scramble to fix things in an attempt to bring it back to the way it was. This may not be the answer. Your relationship is in need of a reshuffle. Time to pull all those wands out and check for signs of dry rot or lack of growth. Some of them may be quite lifeless and in need of attention, sunshine, heat, and hydration. Some may need to be replaced. Reconstruct them in a manner which will facilitate revival and encourage new growth. Change is upon you. Try and be open to healthy change.

Goal Posts Keep Shifting

Here we find a relationship that cannot settle. It might suggest a romance that blows hot and cold, is on one day, and off the next. Couple’s cannot decide what to do with it. There could be temporary break-ups where partners are free to date others. Invariably they get back together again. Friends and family find it hard to keep up with the relationship status as it swings between current and ancient………..Read More…. Extract from The Wands’ Book of Love – Five of Wands

How to Interpret ‘Cup Cards’ in a Relationship Reading

Hello to all My Tarot Friends Around the World,

Sorry this has taken some time to get to you but better late than never. As you will see I have gone into a lot of depth with The Cups and their associations in Relationship Readings. By the way, I have not yet finished. I am still working on it but thought you might like some extra reading material over the Holiday period. As a result of your feedback I am aware that Relationship Readings come high on every Readers List of Essential Interpretations. Therefore, I  have decided to go back over the Wands, Swords and Pentacles to further expand on the work already completed. I will also provide some sample three card snapshot readings for each Suit. The Major Arcana will follow in time but first things first. I will post a notification of content update at time of publishing.

The New Year, 2016, will mark my return to the re-working and story-telling of  The Queens, The Kings and the remaining Major Arcana Cards.

Until then, I do hope you get some useful guidance from the content below.

Enjoy xxx

Cups – Both a Joy and Pain in Relationship Readings

Cups cards are always hoped and wished for in a Relationship Reading as they generally make interpretation much easier. They are on-subject and ready to go. However we must understand the true nature of the Cups Suit which is about the relationship we have with our-self first and fore-most, and not the romance driven one we are often more interested in. If you can like and love yourself enough, you can probably find it in you to love another. Genuine emotionally stable and happy people attract more admirers and fare better in relationships. Cup Cards appearing in a Relationship Spread must always be viewed from both aspects as one can not be separated from the other without emotional problems and issues occurring.

Both inner and outer love should always be taken into consideration when Cup Cards appear in a Relationship Spread. The need for inner love was only acknowledged in Card 7, then searched for in Card 8, before being found in Card 9. The Cups were born with it in The Ace, but rapidly ran to someone else for it by Card 2. They relied on others to make them happy in Card 3 which ultimately led to being let-down by Card 4. Harsh reality hit……..Continue Reading or Click on The Link Below.

How to Interpret ‘Pentacle Cards’ in a Relationship Reading

Hi to All My Tarot Friends and Followers,

Yes, this post is indeed long over due and I apologise for the delay in getting it out to you. Since my last post I have succumbed to a vicious flare up of Fibromyalgia which has been very debilitating this time round. For those of you who suffer from, or know about this condition, you will only be too aware of how rotten it can be. I have not been been able to attend to my regular work schedule and have only managed a couple of hours a day at the computer. Some days, none at all. I am hoping that a return to normal activity is on its way soon, but from previous experience, flare-ups vary in intensity and duration. My cards do show The Star in my surrounding energy, so fingers crossed.

I hope you enjoy reading about the Pentacles – Love and Romance Associations. I think I may have gotten carried away as I seem to have done more on this Suit than I did for both Wands and Swords.  There is so much to say about these lovely Pentacles. Indeed, I could have written a lot more!

Blessings,

Vivien (your Tarot Teacher)

Pentacles- Quite Interesting in Relationship Readings

Pentacles are generally welcomed in Relationship Readings once they are Upright. Cups are all very well and good for love and romance, but they can have their heads stuck in the clouds and get lost in unrealistic dreams as their emotions run away with them. Yes, Cups do highlight matters of the heart, but only on the basis of fluctuating emotions. The love experienced by Cups can turn sour overnight as they are easily influenced by their shifting environment. They view love and romance in an idealistic way and most certainly they are to be encouraged in this manner for we should all be lost without love. However, holding on to that love once they have found it can prove a stressful endeavor. Some Cups are forever chasing the dream lover or relationship. Disappointment or disillusionment can follow. Pentacles help them to be more realistic and practical about their needs….. Click here or Below to Read More

How to Interpret a Relationship Tarot Reading with no Cup Cards!

interpreting_relationship_spreads_with_no_cups

There is a certain area of Tarot Reading that causes considerable confusion and frustration to those who are in the early stages of their apprenticeship or studies. The area I refer to is how one goes about interpreting a Relationship Spread when there is an obvious lack of Cup Cards to work with. Many students struggle when attempting to link non-Cup Cards to the emotional needs or desires of their client. They can view each Suit in a one-dimensional manner. This results in seeing love and romance only when Cup Cards are present. A good old Wand, Sword or Pentacle doesn’t have the same impact at all.

How to Interpret ‘Wand Cards’ in a Relationship Reading

I spent several years teaching Tarot, and at the end each class lesson, students would pair up to do mini exchange readings for each other. I would oversee these readings as I circulated around the class, stopping occasionally to observe the interactions. Time and again, I saw students fall into the same presumption trap that seems to be particular to the Cups’ Suit.  Here are some examples:

The_ Lovers_Upright

Student A – Wants to ask about their career and in their near future position lies the Ace of Cups.

Student B– Face lights up and announces that they are going to meet someone on a romantic basis in the near future. Love is in the air. Student B hooks onto this card and bases the rest of the reading around the new romance that is just appearing on the horizon.

Student A – Is quite flattered but still would like to know more about their career.

I ask Student B if there is a possibility the Ace of Cups held others meanings that might be connected to career rather than love? The Point being that Cup Cards do not automatically mean ROMANCE or LOVE.

How to Interpret ‘Wand Cards’ in a Relationship Reading

******************************

The Lovers Reversed

Student C – Wants to ask about relationships and whether there is a ‘special other’ waiting for them in the near future. The cards drawn reveal no Cups.

Student D – On seeing no Cup Cards suggests that the time is not right as they see no romance in the foreseeable future.

I ask Student D to ponder the cards in the Spread and consider the possibility that Student C is not the romantic type and is looking for a less traditional type of relationship. Could they be seeking an intellectual match, or someone who is daring and adventurous, or then  again it might be financial security and stability that means more than romance. The Point being that no Cup Cards does not mean NO RELATIONSHIP or LOVE

******************************

I had a query recently from a site viewer who couldn’t work out why she had drawn so many Cup Cards when she had deliberately asked about her career. She asked if it meant that she should be concentrating on her love life at present instead of her career? Now, maybe the cards did mean that, but my response was to examine the personal emotional associations of the Cup Cards she drew, as opposed to automatically connecting them to romantic involvement with another. I reminded her that personal happiness comes before seeking it with another. I asked her to revisit these Cup Cards in relation to how she emotionally felt about her career choices. Were the cards suggesting a career associated with the Cups’ Suit? Where they questioning the long-term emotional fulfillment that would be derived from certain career options she was considering? Could she be choosing to turn down a career opportunity that would bring great happiness, but little wealth, in favor of one that promised the very opposite? There are endless possibilities and she would need to analyse the spread as a whole to find the answer.

So, the next time you do a Relationship Reading, and upon turning over the cards you find not even one Cup Card to run with, don’t panic. Look at the cards that are present and work from there. Love comes in many shapes and sizes. Our definition of love also changes throughout of our life. What we consider love as a teenager, is perceived as no more than naive infatuation as a young adult. When we are busy building our careers we may take another view of love and romance. It may not be as vitally important to us during that busy time. Love that involves committing to each other, or starting a family, takes on yet another slant. Then we have the type of Love that develops into a deep rich friendship. We also have a Love that demands the retention of personal freedom, the love of one’s own company. We have love that comes and goes, many loves in one lifetime, love that is delusional or elusive, and of course love that is timeless. As Tarot Readers or consultants it is not our job to attach a blanket understanding or meaning of love when doing Relationship Readings for ourselves or others.

What might sound preposterous to you may very well be extremely acceptable to another. A lack of Cup Cards could easily suggest that the person you are reading for is looking for something other than the typical romantic idyll. They may not feel ready for that type of love, so it is not our place to cast judgement.

I have taken some time to compile a list of possible meanings and associations (both Upright and Reversed)  that can be used for the other Three Suits; Wands, Swords and Pentacles when they turn up in a Relationship Reading. I have already written extensively about the relationship aspects in the more detailed versions of each card which are available to view on this site. These however can be used for quick access.

I have also given snapshot Yes/No meanings that can be applied, but remember they are only snapshot, and not definitive. There is also a reference to the Number of the Card with its numerical associations.

I will be releasing these in installments over the next week, starting with The Wands Suit. Of course I will also include The Cups Suit at the end. For today, I bring you The Wands Suit. Just Click Here or on the link below.
