Aquarius – The Water Bearer

Aquarians are renowned for been cool, aloof and detached. This is often the outward appearance  projected which can be quite confusing and misleading at times.  Intensely private, they can come across guarded and unapproachable. They are not the type who surround themselves with oodles of friends, and are rarely found on the phone gossiping and chatting the hours away.  It’s not that they can’t make friends, it’s just that they do not feel it necessary to be surrounded by people all the time. In fact they are perfectly happy with their own company, and don’t suffer from loneliness the way some other signs do when deprived of their friend’s or family’s company for any length of time. They just don’t need people too much because they dislike the constant interruptions to their precious time, or being bound by obligations when others are involved, that’s all.

Aquarians are calm, and being the most intense of all the Air Signs, are very logical and matter of fact. It will be the Aquarian who will take charge and keep their head when everyone else is losing theirs. They instinctively know exactly what to do in any sort of emergency or crisis. Indeed, if you do find yourself in a state or trouble, it will be your Aquarian friend who will come to your aid and sort it out. This is not because they love to get involved in a drama, far from it, (they are way too sensible for that!!), it’s because they are so calm and logical, they know just the right thing to do at just the right time. You can’t beat them when it comes to dishing out excellent advice. However, don’t expect them to sit around afterwards letting you cry on their shoulder, for they are not exactly at ease with their emotions, especially when it comes to expressing them. Like your Guardian Angel, they will appear in times of trouble, do their work and then get out.

Come to think of it, Aquarians often have an otherworldly, Angelic look about them.  Renowned for their elegance and beauty, they exude an ethereal cool glamour.  This cool glamour in the negative Aquarian can appear more ‘Ice Queen’ like.

Aquarians also carry the tendency towards eccentricity and this can appear in many guises. They certainly like to do what they want, no matter how unconventional it may appear to others. They can get away with it you see.  They have a sharp independence about them and tend not to follow the trends of others too much. For example, if pink and grey or the must have colours of the season, it will be the Aquarian who will fill her wardrobe with yellow and blue, and feel proud to be different.  However, the Aquarian can fix on, or adopt, a style or attitude quite early on in life that sticks. They can sometimes be viewed as old-fashioned or dated .

Friendship

When Aquarians do make friends, they are loyal and dependable. If they say they will be there at a certain time, or do something for you, they will, but it will become quite tedious for them if you expect them to be there for every little thing.  Aquarians tend to have their days, and indeed life, fairly well mapped out and do not like anything to interfere with it.  When not working, they have their time-off filled with all the things they like to do, whether it is washing the dog, reading a book, mowing the lawn,  visiting an art gallery or attending a talk by a visiting lecturer. They certainly will not be found sitting around bored and waiting for the phone to ring. Neither will you find them banging down their friend’s door or harassing them on the phone demanding they meet for coffee.

Aquarians can quite easily run a perfectly good friendship based on a few get-togethers a year.  They just don’t need the constant contact of friends. You would soon find yourself out in the cold if you pushed too far in this area. However, even if you are best friends with an Aquarian, you will never really get to know them, as they will always keep, even their best friends, at a safe distance.

Some people find Aquarians remote and unfriendly. They just appear like that at times. They don’t suffer fools easily and have no time for bad manners or lack of social etiquette. In general, they are happy and have a very balanced and positive outlook on life.  Aquarians do not like to be  bound to a situation or under obligation. Hating scheduled arrangements for social gatherings, they prefer to act spontaneously.  So, it is the Aquarian who will on the spur of the moment decide to ‘do lunch’ or ‘dinner’ rather than have it hanging over them for weeks, for who knows whether they would be in the mood for it or not when the time came .

Love

When it comes to affairs of the heart, it can be tricky for the average Aquarian because yet again they give off the ‘stay away’ or ‘back off’ vibes without knowing it. They may be attracted to someone, yet that someone may not have a clue. Worse still they may believe they are disliked. Flirting does not come easily to the Aquarian. If the subject of their attraction does manage to pick up on a glimmer of interest and moves in closer, they can be rapidly repelled as the Aquarian can withdraw and close down.  They may not mean to do this, it’s just that they are not comfortable with letting people get too close.

Even, the most beautiful or handsome Aquarian may wonder why they find it so hard to meet a partner. If, however, someone does manage to breakthrough the often frosty detached exterior, and are not rapidly shown the door, then love indeed may very well be on the cards. When Aquarians fall in love, they fall very hard and can have a very fulfilling relationship. They do however, no matter how madly in love (if that is possible for an Aquarian) find it difficult to express their emotions and can easily send out mixed signals. Problems will arise however, if the Aquarian’s need for privacy. personal time and space is not respected.  As long as their partner accepts that there will always be a side, or sides to their Aquarian partner they will never gain access to, then everything will be fine.  Aquarians should think long and hard about getting into a relationship for compromises will have to be made if that relationship is to succeed. Aquarians will be the ones with separate bathrooms, separate bedrooms, if not separate houses. They could live quite happily like that while maintaining a healthy relationship.

Family and Parenthood

Compromise is the order of the day again when it comes to raising children. Like some other signs in the Zodiac, the Aquarian parent will feel the restriction and constant demands of young children, a dreadful invasion of privacy and interference in their well organised life. It is important for them to have a well thought out schedule, allowing for both personal and family days. The Aquarian parent may find it difficult to show emotion or affection easily when it comes to their children. The Aquarian parent knows the value of privacy and independent thinking.  They will encourage their children to be different and to think for themselves. These are the children who will also be allowed to express themselves freely, be it through painting on the walls, decorating their own room at four, or shaving their hair off when they are ten. The Aquarian parent will admire these individual qualities in their free-spirited children. However, they may get a little frustrated and disappointed if any of their offspring prefer to think and dress like the mass, wanting to be just like everyone else.

Careers

Aquarians are the humanitarians of the Zodiac and often get involved in careers which reflect this. We already know how invaluable they are in times of emergency, and how they approach a crisis with calm and logic. They can put these natural qualities to perfect use in careers such as counselling and psychology. You will find many Aquarians working as social-workers where they can give advice and sympathy without getting too emotionally involved. This natural ability of theirs to keep calm and cool in a crisis, feel sympathy and compassion, without breaking down emotionally, can place them in global humanitarian organizations around the world such as Goal, UNICEF or the Red Cross.

Science is another area which attracts Aquarians and they have a natural flair for it. However, they are equally drawn to, and fascinated with holistic therapies, homeopathy and natural medicines such as herbs.  Another favourite of Aquarians is flying, so a career as a pilot or in the airlines is possible.  Aquarians work well on their own but really need to like what they are doing, otherwise boredom sets in and they will then do just enough to get by. This can give a terrible impression of their wonderful talents. They just need something that stimulates their intellect and challenges them. A small cubby-hole office is preferable to a shared open office with constant chatting and interruptions. They just like to be left to get on with their work.

Health

When it comes to the average Aquarian’s health, their ruling planet Uranus, governs the circulatory system, the calves, ankles, and eyes. Varicose veins or hardening of the arteries can be a problem, and cold weather will wreak havoc on an already poor circulatory system. Injuries to the ankles or shins are common. Rheumatism and arthritis are common too. Regular aerobic exercise and walking will improve the circulation and strengthen bones and joints.  Swimming and sailing are other forms of exercise enjoyed by Aquarians, although their preference for privacy and solitude will have them choose physical exercise they can do on their own rather than with a team or group.

Aquarians generally respect their body and what they put into it so will gravitate towards organic foods and herbs. They do like their food though, and especially rich dishes, so moderation must be key here if they are to maintain a steady weight. They don’t like to be told what to do, so following a strict diet compiled by someone else will not suit. They must find their own way, and in their own time, to shift the pounds and keep the scales pointing in the right direction.

The Older Aquarian

Aquarians seem to have little problem when it comes to giving up work or retiring in later life. This allows them the freedom to pursue their own stuff more readily, and Aquarians do like to do their own thing. They can be free to travel, free to get involved in environmental organisations, free to throw themselves into fundraising and charity organisations, free to do voluntary work with the homeless or elderly. Their occasional dinner parties are renowned but only very close friends will be invited.  They enjoy the theatre, opera and exhibitions. They will of course be there for their family, but when their kids are grown will not be the least interfering. They know their kids can turn to them if they need help, but only if they ask. They certainly will not be turning up at their son or daughter’s house every Sunday for lunch. The Aquarian parent would think that a terrible intrusion of one’s privacy even if it is family.
