Sample Tarot Reader’s Code of Ethics

Here is a copy of my own Tarot Consultant’s Code of Ethics which regularly gets reviewed and amended as I encounter new experiences where it is necessary to draw up ground rules and boundaries.

My Tarot Consultant’s Code of Ethics

Vivien Ni Dhuinn Tarot Consultant

  • I am a Tarot Consultant/ Reader but this does not suggest that I am a Psychic or Medium. Neither does it suggest that I am Telepathic.

  • All Readings are completely Private and Confidential. I will not share them with a Third-Party.
  • To avoid disappointment  or an unnecessary Journey, A Pre-Arranged Appointment is essential. I cannot accommodate Clients who call unexpectedly, either in person or over the phone looking for an On-The-Spot Tarot Consultancy
  • A Tarot Consultancy Reading is a Two-Way Process. I will ask Questions during a Reading and expect the Involvement of The Querant in their Reading. This helps The Cards to Yield more Information, thus enabling the Reading to Open Up and Expand.
  • Tarot Reading does not Predict the Future but is based on the Probable Outcome of Events which is influenced by the current behaviour and attitude of the Querant and those around them.
  • In Tarot no Card is viewed as totally Negative as Each has something to teach us. All Cards represent part of the Human Experience of Life. The Death Card does not carry a meaning of Physical Death but one of Liberation from a Negative Situation or the end of a Particular Cycle in our Life. It suggests Change, Transformation and Transition. The Release of the Old to make room for the New. It is not a Card to be Feared.

  • Tarot Cards are not Dangerous, Evil or Bad Luck, but are simply an expression of our Subconscious wherein lies the answers or solutions to all our Life Issues. A Tarot Reading is similar to Dream Interpretation where our Subconscious relays information to us through the Imagery On The Cards.

  • The Tarot Cards carry Images that reflect aspects of Life we are all familiar with. As a Tarot Consultant I have Trained and Studied their Imagery and Associated Meanings, and am therefore in a position to Interpret the Cards that you have selected.

  • A Tarot Reading is not Absolute or Carved in Stone. As a Tarot Reader, I will offer my Opinion and Advice, but will not interfere with the Free will of the Querant. Any Decisions made or Actions taken by the Querant as a result of a Tarot Reading are the Sole Responsibility of The Querant.
  • I do not give Specific Financial, Legal, Medical or any other Advice that I am not Professionally Qualified to do so.
  • My Readings are Constructive and not Destructive. I give Readings to Empower the Querant.
  • I will be Honest in what I see and will not give False Hopes or Empty Promises in order to keep the Querant happy.
  • I will be Compassionate and Sensitive to your feelings and will not Judge or Condemn.
  • I do not give Readings to Persons under the age of 18 without the consent of their Parent or Guardian.

  • I will never refuse a Client a Tarot Consultancy on the Grounds of Race, Colour, Religious Belief, Disability or Sexual Orientation.

  • I do not predict the Lotto Numbers.

  • I Do Not Invoke or Remove Spells or Curses.

  1. Hello there, I am Ronni, I had found your site from simply searching of other tarot readers code of ethics. I found many but clicked on yours for some reason and avoided the major sites such as Biddy Tarot. I want to you I find this extremely odd because once I began reading about you and your ethics, I realized many things. First off I have been studying tarot for over 20 years now and it had took me a bit to really figure them out, however I have also been working with dreams, astral projection and the subconscious for the same if not longer amount of time. I want to say that I have yet to meet a tarot reader that see’s it the same as I do, in fact I am very happy and almost surprised to have found your page and that you work with them and see them the same as I. I must admit that it is a nice surprise, because in a way it confirms my thoughts and beliefs on The Tarot I have always had all these years, that they are simply the subconscious and they are in fact just as dream symbolism. I came to this conclusion shortly after taking a tarot course and really starting to study it more. My out of body experiences are one of the main reasons I know the cards are simply how our subconscious mind relates them to our personal lessons, goals, and thoughts. I am in the process of starting my own tarot business and also my blog, its not easy but its been fun. I also run many dreaming/out of body groups and I am writing a book about space and time. Also taking a blogging course and a medium workshop. Lots going on:) I just wanted to tell you that I am very grateful to have found your site and honestly it just pushes me more because I feel I am not the only one who reads and sees things as I do.:) I also have a question regarding your Code of ethics and disclaimer, I really could use some help with this, and if you do not mind I’d like to use your’s as a example and put in my own unique perspectives? Again, I am thankful I found your site and good luck to you!

    • Hi Ronni,

Thank you so much for your wonderful message, and I too am also relieved to find someone who sees tarot the way I do. I have just been on your site and have read some of your posts and pages. Very interesting stuff indeed. I have signed up to follow.

Now, I am not sure what happened when I started to reply to your message but it turned into 4 word pages long. It is too much to send to you and when I read it back I think I will put it up as a post on my site and dedicate it to you as the inspiration or catalyst behind it. I will post it in the next week so keep a good look out for it.

Good for you that you want to set up your own business and blog. I agree it is very hard work and here I am on a Saturday afternoon still hammering away on my keyboard! You certainly have a lot going on and a book in the process too. I have many out of body experiences I could share with you. I haven’t had one in a long time but for years they were a regular, if not weekly occurrence.

Let me know if I can be of any assistance and when you launch your blog. Yes, of course you can use my Tarot Reader’s Ethics and do whatever you wish to make it your own.

      Take care,

      Vivien

I appreciate your kind words and support as well, and again I would love to hear of your obe’s and experiences. • Hello Miss Tarot Teacher, I too resonate very strongly with your code of ethics and your perspective of the Tarot. I run a couple of social media platforms, do readings on Facebook group pages and run a You Tube channel. I decided it was time to protect myself with the kind of work I do and begin researching for any professional disclaimers or policies out there to inform potential clients before a reading. I believe it’s important for people to be aware of what they are getting into and know this is hocus pocus and I wanted to inform them of their right and garauntee to complete privacy of the information they provide to me. I think what you have written is wonderful and spot on with my own beliefs and I felt the need to first ask for your permission to use your disclaimer on my platforms. I will not take credit for it. Like the commentor mentioned above, I may tweak it and add my personal twist but I felt led to ask permission first. Hope to hear from you! Thanks

  2. Hi Ronni, just wondered if you can help. Im doing a diploma course on tarot cards and cartomancy, but im on the final exam and they are asking me to write a real or fictional reading using whatever spread I prefer no less than 1000 words, but I dont know where to start. Can you help at all?

    • Hi Angie,

I would suggest settling on a story you either know, or make one up. Then pick a spread that will contain enough cards to tell that story. Then select the cards that will depict your story and write it up as if an interpretation that has been arrived at from cards drawn like in a real reading instead of deliberately selecting cards to tell a pre-determined story you have made up. If you can’t find the exact cards, tweak the story to another card that will work. You can then type up the story and list the cards you are using. To be honest, an easier way would be to do a reading for yourself using perhaps the Celtic Cross. Carry out your interpretation and then type it up. As you type you will begin to make connections you hadn’t initially seen. Go back over what you have written and make further connections. Amend as often as is needed. You could also call in the help of a friend or fellow student to do a reading for but would need to inform them of it being used for exam purposes.

      Best of luck.

  3. Good afternoon,

Thank you for your wonderful site! You are very gifted and talented. I am an aspiring tarot reader and just getting started. I do not want to make any legal mistakes and I see you have an excellent legal disclaimer and, “My Tarot Consultant’s Code of Ethics.” I have no idea where to start creating my legal disclaimer or code of ethics. Could I use yours on my site? If not, then could you direct me to the people who helped create yours?

    • Oh, you can use it. I pulled bits and pieces from other’s code of ethics and legal disclaimers. I am not sure how much use they are but I tend to overdo it in this area. I no longer do official readings on my site. I help student readers or people who are stuck doing their own readings. I used to do readings online but found people’s expectations of what a tarot reading can offer varies greatly from country to country and culture to culture. Some worryingly took every interpretation I gave as gospel no matter what I said to the contrary. I worried they would take action after a reading that was wrong. I would tell them that tarot cannot predict the future but they would tell me it did. Some would get angry if I didn’t give them the interpretation they wanted and tell me I was no good and wrong, that their destiny was written in the stars. I found it too stressful and gave up advertising readings. I no longer do private readings at home either. I prefer to write about tarot and to help others with their readings. I wish you luck with your readings and you are right to be cautious.

      Vivien
